Hilton Head’s Best Outdoor Adventures for the Family
Posted on April 26, 2016 by David Duran & filed under TravelIf you are planning to head south for some much needed vacation time, South Carolina's exclusive Hilton Head Island has been a regular go to destination for nearby neighbors and savvy golfers from all around the world, but has most recently become more mainstream with the rest of us who didn't know too much about what Hilton Head had to offer. Not only is golf popular, but also, South Carolina's little gem is packed full of outdoor recreational activities and options for everyone, including the young ones. If being outside and enjoying the beauty of nature while getting in some fun sounds like your kind of getaway, below are some of the best outdoor adventures that Hilton Head has to offer.
Activities With A Unique View
Ziplining has very much become an in-demand activity around the world and now the very first zipline course has reached Hilton Head. ZipLine Hilton Head is great for all ages and provides guests with a 2-hour eco-adventure that will have folks flying through the trees while taking in some breathtaking views of Broad Creek. For the more adventurous or active vacationers, Aerial Adventure Hilton Head has six amazing courses for two hours of exhilaration as guests tackle obstacle courses from easy to hard that provides a one of a kind journey through the trees.
Surf & Cycle
Watersports are very much a part of what makes Hilton Head Island so special. Stand up paddle boarding (SUP) and windsurfing are both offered throughout various locations and offer opportunities for beginners to the more advanced boarders. In addition, Hilton Head Island is one of the only places in the world to encourage and teach SUP yoga classes. Parasailing, tubing, wave runners and other water activities are also available.
And for those who enjoy cruising around on a bicycle, the island is very bicycle friendly and rentals can be found directly on the beaches or throughout various locations.
Get To Know The Local Wildlife
If animals are of interest, Hilton Head has a dolphin eco tour that is led by USCG licensed captains and interpretive naturalists. The area is home to a year-round population of wild Atlantic Bottlenose dolphins and the tours provide a close range view on their small group and private tours. And if you need a break from the water, Lawton Stables offers guided trail rides through the scenic Sea Pines Forest Preserve, with pony rides available for younger guests. The stables are also home to pigs, miniature donkeys, goats, bunnies and more.
Boat Shoes Required
Ok, you might not actually need to wear boat shoes, but there are a variety of boating options for those wanting a full day of water action. Everything from cruises to fishing and shrimping excursions, to wildlife tours are all around the surrounding Hilton Head Island area. All the local companies operating in the area take pride in their destination and are always looking to exceed expectations. The majority of the boat captains are locals, but if you want to be a captain one day, there are also sailing lessons available in addition to catamaran tours or private charters.
